When applying for membership, you will have the option of applying for access to the AOAO Case Log System at the member discounted rate of $100. After graduation, continued usage of the AOAO Case Log System requires payment on an annual basis to maintain access. Access for the 2011-2012 year cycle is from July 1, 2011 until June 30, 2012.

- Run customized reports for board or other specialty certification requirements as needed.
- Choose multiple criteria or data range for reports.
- Access to cases filed during your residency.
Active Membership
The requirements for Active Status Membership are:
-
Graduation from a College of Osteopathic Medicine approved by the American
Osteopathic Association; -
Licensed to practice osteopathic medicine in the state in which you practice. (Except
when there is documentation of military or U.S. Public Health practice.); -
Board Certified or Board eligible by the American Osteopathic Association through the
American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery; -
Member of the American Osteopathic Association and its divisional and local
societies, and if elected to membership, shall continue to be a member in good
standing with each of the above named organizations; -
AOAO candidate member or meet the requirements thereof; and,
Meet the current AOA requirements for Orthopedic Surgery training.
Current annual dues are $350.00 and are payable in October each year and become
delinquent after March 1st. Dues are payable only after AOAO Board of Directors’ approval
of the membership application.

(AOA). -

sections: Adult Reconstructive, Pediatric, Sports Medicine, Foot and Ankle
Surgery, Hand Surgery and Spine, along with their specialty educational
programs. -
You will be kept abreast of your specialty and our organization through our
excellent publication – The Orthopod. -
You can be certain that all educational programs are under observation for
quality and the observation of accreditation requirements. -
You have the backing of and association with over 1,200 osteopathic
orthopedic surgeons – all with similar concerns and problems. -
You will know that your training programs are producing outstanding
orthopods. There are 29 approved residency programs, training over 300
new residents every year. -
You will know that a strong organization is available to you in support of
your training, your programs and assistance with accreditation problems. -
You will be represented by a significant, single-purpose organization at all
levels in the osteopathic profession to protect your status and practice.
You will have the same strong representation in all professional and public
matters, from licensure to legislative matters to professional image. -
An opportunity to become a Fellow in the AOAO.
Continuing Education Requirements for Active Members:
-
Shall register and attend one out of every three Annual Meetings held each fall;
and -
Shall register and attend one out of every three Postgraduate Seminars held each
spring -
Failure to meet the requirement of registration and attendance:
a. Shall be timely notified in writing of non-compliance
b. Shall be presented to the Board for appropriate action

Associate Membership
The requirements for Associate Status Membership are:
-
Graduation from a College of Osteopathic Medicine approved by the American Osteopathic
Association; OR -
Graduation from an Allopathic Medical School or College recognized and approved by an
accrediting agency recognized by the United State Office of Education, OR -
Graduation from a foreign medical school registered with the World Health Organization.
-
Licensed to practice Osteopathic or Allopathic medicine in the state in which you practice.
(Except when there is documentation of military or U.S Public Health practice.); -
Board Certified or Board Eligible by the appropriate certifying board of either the American
Osteopathic Association or the American Board of Medical Specialists. -
If an Osteopathic physician member of the American Osteopathic Association and its
divisional and local societies, and if elected to membership, shall continue to be a member in
good standing with each of the above-named organizations; -
If an Allopathic physician, member of the appropriate Specialty College of the American Medical Association or the Canadian Medical Association, and if elected to membership continue to be a member in good standing of the above organizations;

Associate members shall have voice but no vote in the affairs of the Academy. They may not
become an officer or director, but may serve on committees, either as a member or chairmen. They may not serve on the Board of Directors. An applicant who would otherwise be eligible for either Candidate or Active Membership may not become an Associate Member.

Candidate Membership
The requirements for Candidate Status Membership are:

Be a graduate of a College of Osteopathic Medicine approved by the American
Osteopathic Association; -
Be enrolled in an American Osteopathic Association approved orthopedic residency
training program; -
Be a member of the American Osteopathic Association and if elected to membership
shall continue to be a member in good standing.

Allied Health Professional Membership
The requirements for Allied Health Professional Status Membership are:

Be a graduate of a allied health professional school;
-
Be licensed to practice as a allied health professional in the state where he/she
resides; -
Be certified as a allied health professional
-
Be in good standing with the state board where he/she is licensed;
-
Complete an application which will be supplied by the American Osteopathic Academy
of Orthopedics; -
Be permitted to attend the educational and scientific meetings and the social functions
of the Academy, but shall have no voice or vote in the affairs of the Academy; -
Submit a letter of recommendation from an active member of the Academy.

each fall provide excellent opportunities to meet with your peers, to obtain valuable
Continuing Medical Education credits, and to keep up-to-date on the latest in current
Osteopathic Orthopedic Surgery techniques.

Military Membership
The requirements for Military Status Membership are:

An active, full-time member of the United States Armed Forces;
-
Graduation from a College of Osteopathic Medicine approved by the American
Osteopathic Association; -
Licensed to practice osteopathic medicine in the state in which you practice. (Except
when there is documentation of military or U.S. Public Health practice.); -
Board Certified or Board eligible by the American Osteopathic Association through the
American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery; -
Member of the American Osteopathic Association, and if elected to membership, shall
continue to be a member in good standing with the AOA; -
AOAO candidate member or meet the requirements thereof; and,
-
Meet the current AOA requirements for Orthopedic Surgery training.
Among the many benefits to you as an AOAO Member are the following:

Current annual dues for those in the military service are $200.00 and are payable in October
each year and are delinquent after March 1st. Dues are payable only after AOAO Board of
Directors’ approval of the membership application. This is a reduction of $150.00 from the
dues paid by the private practice.
A requirement of Military Membership is to attend one out of every three Annual Meetings
held each fall or one out of every three Postgraduate Seminars held each spring. These meetings provide excellent opportunities to meet your peers, to obtain valuable
Continuing Medical Education credits, and to keep up-to-date on the latest in current
Osteopathic Orthopedic Surgery techniques.
